Tobin, let me start with you with a very simple question. She's both Jane's younger sister and Dave's ex-fiancee, who leaves him at the altar in the series' pilot. slovenly man-child Max, played by Adam Pally serial dating PR flack Penny, played by Casey Wilson insecure, goateed food truck proprietor Dave, played by Zachary Knighton and the youngest of the group, Alex, played by Elisha Cuthbert. There's the hyper-successful married couple, Jane and Brad, played by Eliza Coupe - yay - and Damon Wayans Jr. OK, so "Happy Endings" was created by David Caspe, who's gone on to co-create the series "Black Monday" and "Kenan." It ran on ABC for three seasons from 2011 to 2013, and it follows a group of six best friends, as we mentioned. TOBIN LOW, BYLINE: Always happy to be here. On the surface, it owed a great deal to shows like "Living Single" and especially "Friends" in that it was about a young group of friends in a city - Chicago this time - who pal around cracking jokes and getting up to high jinks.īut its comic sensibility was sharper, more idiosyncratic and decidedly less mainstream than "Friends," which may explain both why it soon developed a small but devoted cult following, and also why it tended to struggle in the ratings back in the waning days of the monoculture. The early 2010s ABC sitcom "Happy Endings" is now streaming on Hulu, Netflix and HBO Max, and we think it might become your next bingeable obsession, if it hasn't already.
