I think photographers and other people using cameras, video recorders, or other devices would like to use the tarp as a staging area where they could keep their equipment off the ground or protected from direct sunlight. In an emergency, the tarp is strong enough that it could be used to carry someone to safety. It’s also ideal for back of car/SUV covering for people who bring their dogs on outdoor adventures. Now the challenge is to part with both the quilt and sleeping bag because I no longer need them!īecause of the grommets, it would be easy to make a simple shelter with the tarp, rope, and some stakes. Better, even though the water soaked through the sleeping bag, the tarp kept me totally dry. More room than the yoga mat, and the woven fabric has some purchase so I had no trouble with my planks. I used the sleeping bag against the ground since I didn’t want to get mud on my tarp, and placed the tarp on top. I use an old sleeping bag with a yoga mat on top, but the other day it occurred to me that the Rugged Style Tapestry Tarp would be a better option. It’s warm enough where I live to exercise outdoors in winter, but the grass is usually pretty wet and sometimes muddy. On its website Tarpestry suggests that if this happens consumers can spray the tarp with water-protective coatings sold at outdoor gear stores. I could put it in the washing machine, but over time that will break down the water-resistant coating. I can shake off debris, wipe off dirt with a damp cloth, or hose it down if it’s covered with mud, grass, or sand. The Rugged Style Tarpestry tarp is easy to clean. When I’m ready to leave everything I need is still safely stored in the pocket. When I’m on my tarp I can stash all those items in the pocket and just enjoy my picnic or yoga practice. I lose everything, so I have lanyards on my phone, keys, and wallet. One of my favorite parts of the Rugged Style Tarpestry tarp is the small corner pocket with the Velcro-like seal. Water beads off the tarp, making it ideal for picnics (people always spill) and providing cover when I need to dash from car to cabin in a deluge. This jacket was sent to me for review through the #ORInsightLab.I like this tough tarp because it’s much more durable than my old cotton bedspread, so I can use it on rocks, sand, wet grass, and other surfaces without tearing it or getting wet. Buy the Uberlayer through Outdoor Research, CampSaver, REI, Mountain Gear, or Amazon for $299. If you don’t mind always looking (and smelling) kinda dirtbaggy, this jacket is it. I also found that the nylon shell holds stains and dirt pretty well, even with thorough and frequent washings. The ultimate downside of the Uberlayer is it stinks something fierce when you’re rocking it day in and day out. When you’re sweating away, the jacket doesn’t stick to you, an absolute must when I’m bike commuting to work. It’s perfect for throwing over a t-shirt. The mesh lining keeps me reaching for this jacket time and time again for everything. I really, really, really wish more jackets were versatile like this. The double separating front zipper is a godsend with a harness on, or if you really need to use the bathroom with all your snow gear on. It’s breathable enough for shredding and insulates enough for windy days on the wall or the lift. From snowboarding to snowshoeing to climbing, this jacket is sport agnostic. Not having to really shed layers while I’m on the go? That’s a total win in my book. I used to be all about the down jacket, but now this is my go-to. The Outdoor Research Uberlayer has really changed my tune towards synthetic insulation. Please make sure that your review focus on the product and your experience with it, this will help other customers make more confident decisions. The fit is trim.Īvailable through Outdoor Research | CampSaver | REI | Mountain Gear | or Amazon The jacket features a helmet compatible hood and a double separating front zipper. The jacket features two zippered hand pockets, one zippered napoleon pocket, and two internal stuff pockets. Polartec® Alpha® Active Insulation is layered between a polyester mesh lining and a highly breathable nylon shell to keep you warm and cool, all at once. The Outdoor Research Uberlayer Hooded Jacket does just that.Īt 16.7 oz, the jacket is lightweight, breathable, water resistant and wind resistant. When you’re huffing and puffing away in varying temperatures, you want insulation that works with you and not against you.
